Many thanks to everyone for your continued help on the forums.
The DSL ZoneUK team |
As discussed in previous topics, we have taken the plunge and installed the new phpBB3 forum.
Things to note:
- Skin is not complete yet, so don't worry about the look and feel too much as it will be changed when I get time *almost done now* - New spam-bot measures and registration validation checks have been implemented - All data (members/posts/PM's) have been converted
If you notice anything odd or broken let us know.

There was a spurt of spamming this morning. You can make the moderators job easier if you follow these guidlines....
There is no report this post button on this version of the forum. That is beyond my control and no amount of bleating about this will make one magically appear so please just PM thar with a link to the post.
Do not reply to the post as this just keeps it prominent in the forum. Most are made by bots in any event. In particular some posters (you know who you are) seem to think it appropriate to reply using expleteives which just makes the site look bad. For this reason I no longer read any threads started off with spam I just delete the entire thread.
The main purpose of spam is to get the links picked up by google to increase the site ranking. I still urge members to refrain from clicking these links - as we have seen not all AV software is capable of picking up web based malware. |
Please Note: This is no longer the case. We now have other providers coming in to and out of the top 5.
[b:a7c4d]All top five ISP ratings on broadband information site DSL ZoneUK have been occupied by Entant and its Partners[/b:a7c4d].
Leading voice and data communications provider, Entanet, has seen its growing reputation for high performance and reliability underlined this week by one of the leading independent broadband information web sites, DSL ZoneUK. The site's ISP ratings show that Entanet and four of its Partners occupy the top five positions based on end users' feedback and comments.
"Taking all five top positions is a landmark achievement" says Carol Davies, Business Development Manager for broadband at Entanet. "We work very hard to ensure we deliver consistently high levels of service to all our Partners and customers. It's great to see that being recognised on such a highly regarded source of broadband information as DSL ZoneUK".

Paul has just completed his write-up of one of the latest (and possibly greatest) ADSL Modem Routers.
It is the D-Link G804V and the review can be viewed from the link below:

As a side note, we would very much welcome everyone to write up a review (simple or complex) of their own router. This will help everyone else on the site who is looking at buying a new one and you will of course get full credit.
If you have any question regarding this, feel free to ask.
Thanks to Paul for his review.
Cheers

We are looking for two people who are "in-the-know" on ADSL and Broadband to be news posters for the site.
As you can see, the main front page does not get updated enough in terms of news stories, so if you have any sources, or don't mind scouring the web for news that may be useful to post on this site, please let me know by replying to this post.
If we have more than two people apply I may increase it to three news posters.
Each news poster will be provided with their own @dslzoneuk.net email address (accessible via POP3, IMAP and webmail)
Thanks

Our second national magazine feature! This time, our ASDL Max speed checker has been featured in the PC Pro magazine, Issue 142 (Aug 2006). The magazine should be out now to the general public if you wish to grab a copy for yourselves.

An IP lookup tool has been added. This lets you find out what ISP an IP belongs to. For example, enter 84.9.221.1 and it should tell you that it belongs to Bulldog...

For all people being upgraded to Max please read the following regarding the capping issue after upgrade.
The issue appears to be where a line is connected to a router and so on-line when the regrade actually happens, BT do not recognise the new line sync as being from a Max line (it's too quick). Later re-syncs at the same rate do not prompt BT to take any action either. This means the normal 75 minutes for a new or regraded line does not happen. The line should have the rate correctly set after 3 days. The reason some lines appear to work is that they are either slow to reconnect, not on-line during the regrade, or sync at a different rate later. Ironically this does mean that really good lines that always sync at a full 8128M are unlikely to have the speed change applied promptly.
The upshot of which is that if you are going to be upgraded turn your router off overnight.
[Addendum] - Another feature of the upgrade to Max is that your SNR will drop, possibly to single figures. This is normal and to be expected as a result of the upgrade. |
